Movie 1:
shark_fps10_xvid
XviD compressed avi, 3.2 Mb
|
Great White Shark (Carcharodon carcharias)
These ancient creatures are high speed swimmers
with long streamlined bodies and tall lunate tail fins which generate most
of their propulsive thrust. Their entire bodies are composed of dermal
denticles which act as surface roughness. |
|
Movie 2: turtle_fps40_xvid
XviD compressed avi, 14.0 Mb |
Green Sea Turtle (Chelonia mydas)
These slow migratory creatures propel themselves efficiently using a pair of
hydrofoil shaped flippers which generate thrust during both the upstroke and
downstroke. |
|
Movie 3: dolphin_fps10_xvid
XviD compressed avi, 4.9 Mb |
Common Bottlenose Dolphin (Tursiops truncatus)
These cetaceans appear to be effortless high speed swimmers due to their
extremely low drag body shapes and strong thrust generating fluke. They are
classed as Carangiform swimmers because the thrust is generated from the
rear half of their bodies. |
